Ok Let's look at some positives. Clinton engineered the Welfare to Work program when we had a good economy and we had jobs. Look at our econony now. Unemployment is horrible and now we also have the illegal "guests" taking many of the jobs that welfare moms could do. If we don 't subsidize these folks what are they going to do. If all of them were working, you might not have a job as pushing these moms into the work force will cause wages to go down. Everyone knows that illegals (guests) and women are severely underpaid. In the 60's and 70's, our morals realxed quite a bit. Nowadays it is nothing for a woman to have a baby and no man around the house. Many people live together and have kids but dont get married because their jobs do not have medical or the cost is too high. We encourage people to stay unmarried by corporations withholding affordable benefits, like medical. Corporate America has created jobs for illegals and women with no medical and no retirement. Our government is subsidizing and paying for the medical of illegals and single parents. It is cheap labor for the big corps with you and me picking up the tab for medical benefits. What can be done about it? I just don't know. The issue is bigger than life and there is no easy answer. We can vote for people who see our point of view but how do we overthrow the policies of Mega Corporations?

When I saw your top-level question, I was going to respond that a lot of children get no health care at all (tens of millions of children in this country do not get health care except when they are taken to the emergency room -- they, who contribute nothing).
Therefore, it's simply not true that people who don't contribute to society get free health care.
Isn't the problem that most Americans can't get affordable health care?
Yes, your situation is unfair, but I believe you're blaming the wrong people.
For example, those children -- why should they suffer and die from preventable conditions, just because their parents don't have jobs?
What we need is affordable health care for all, not "health care only for a few."
It is wrong that people who work have to work harder and harder and get less and less for it.
But those responsible are those who are taking all the profits, not the people who have no income.
It's often the same people who complain about women who don't have jobs getting subsidized housing, health care, and food to keep those kids alive, that are the very same people whinging on about how the fall of society is due to working moms.
I don't know what, if any, options your sisters-in-law have, as you gave no relevant details about them, or where you'd expect them to park the kids if they worked.
But I do know that most welfare in this country is money going to the rich, not the poor.
Those in power find it very convenient to set the bottom and the middle against each other, while those at the top walk away with 90% of the pie.
Unlike you, I don't think the answer is kicking the moms and their kids out into the streets to starve and die.
I think the answer is for the rich to pay their fair share, stop getting all of the benefits, and to make it possible for there to be, once again, a comfy, healthy middle class, who work reasonable hours and get a good living from it.
Letting those kids die is not the way to achieve that.

Yes...I am fed up with it too.
I understand if someone gets into a bad situation and needs some help getting on their feet, but there are Many families that this has become a way of life!!!
I am sick of paying for other people!
After a certain amount of time and help they need to be cut off.
Some one else on here asked a question about "can women get pap smears and birth control thru medicaid?" When my response was "try getting a job" I got Reported!
Can you believe that? I am sure it was a welfare recipient who did the reporting!

Freeloaders like this get "paid" to do nothing (but have children) because the socialists have taken over HEW. Marx reiterated "To each according to his need and from each according to his ability".
As for those who are going to say, "it isn't the Christian thing do do", the Bible says, "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."
To wit, the Bible says that Christians are NOT communists or socialists

These people, and others like you mentioned, are society. Don't be angry with them, they don't have the courage and conviction that you do. So just pray (if you are a spiritual) for them. They are your family, so maybe you will be the example for their children and eventually this " trend" will subside. The bible says that we should work. Help them read the bible.

And to complicate the matter, did you know that the unintended consequence of welfare has been the decline of marriage among the poor, especially the african american population. We really need to rethink this.
