Most everyone has been influenced by him, whether we know it or not. Some of the sayings and idioms we use every day come from him.

Most aspiring authors, poets or prose study his works, use his plots and borrow his characters.

Everyone who speaks English, to some extent, has been influenced by Shakespeare. Many of our common sayings come from Shakespearean plays (especially Hamlet). A poet can especially be influenced because Shakespeare created a new form of sonnet, arranged differently than the traditional Petrachan sonnet. Present day directors often remake Shakespeare's plays into films; 10 Things I Hate About You is a remake of Taming of the Shrew.

Since Shakespeare is required reading for most college level literature courses, everyone who reads will be influenced in a moderate way.
