I tested on the day of the period and still negative, is that accurate?

You could still have a period and be pregnant. Wait a while and do another test to be sure. My cousin had her period for 3 months straight and did not know she was pregnant.

It isn't uncommon to have spotting during the first couple of months of pregnancy. It often corresponds to when you would have had your period again, but it shouldn't be very heavy at all. Bright red blood and heavy cramping is a cause for concern. Even something that is heavier than spotting could be a concern, too.

How far along were you? Have you seen the doctor yet and have you had an ultrasound?

As far as pregnancy tests go it is more common to get a false negative than a false positive. Not all are created equal so depending on how far along you are some may not be able to detect the HCG in your urine yet.

Do you know for a fact you are pregnant? It's important to note every month the body undergoes some of the symptoms associated with pregnancy for a short time because at one point it acts like it is. As you progress through your cycle the body will start producing hormonal changes as though you were pregnant in preparation for an actual pregnancy. This causes the tender breasts, among other things, that women often experience a week or so before her period. At one point the body cannot sustain the hormones necessary to maintain the uterine lining and that is when menstruation begins. A pregnancy produces a hormone called HCG that keeps this from happening (which is what pregnancy tests detect) and you continue having those symptoms such as sore breasts, frequent urination, etc. It is still possible to have a very small/short/light period especially the first time when the HCG levels are still fairly low.

With my first daughter I knew I was pregnant just through intuition. I took the pregnancy tests at home and a blood test ordered by the doctor and it all came up negative. Two weeks later the home test came up positive.

If you knew you were pregnant earlier through a positive test and now you have bleeding and a negative test this could be indicative of a miscarriage. I would talk to your doctor about that. But if you are thinking you are newly pregnant there is still a chance you could be so try testing again in a week or so or buy a higher quality test. (Read the fine print to see the minimum level of HCG needed to detect a positive result. Often the generics aren't as good as the name brands, such as EPT in this regard.) You could ask for a blood test from the doctor. Some are extremely sensitive and can detect a pregnancy just days after it happens. (These are commonly used for IVF couples).

Hope this helps. I could be wrong but it sounds as though you were hoping to be so I wish you the best of luck!

When I was pregnant I had my period the first month. It lasted for about 3 days but was much lighter; both in color and flow; so you could be pregnant. Give it a few days and take another test.

It is possible that you still are. Wait a while and test again. How light is light, though? If you had a couple days of flow, then you probably aren't pregnant.
