can i use an ethernet cable with any ip company even if they send me a modem and as i have a router from my last ip i was wondering if i could also use that as it the only thing i got to connect my ethernet cable to or can i buy an adapter that i can plug in to my modem that will allow me to connect the ethernet cable to my modem

huh? If you're asking can you use a standard ethernet cable to connect any cable/dsl modem to any ethernet device the answer is yes.

Ethernet cables are the same no matter what IP you have.
