I think she meant placenta lakes. Here's a website that explains what those are: http://en.allexperts.com/q/ObGyn-Pregnancy-issues-1007/Placental-Lake.htm

I have not heard of "placenta legs". Could you have misheard it? Placental lakes are a term we use.
"Placental lakes are seen on scans as black areas on the surface or deeper inside the placenta and are actually pools of blood. You can see the placenta in the image below above the baby on the front wall of the womb, and the three small black areas on the surface of the placenta are lakes.
There have been one or two cases reported where very large placental lakes were thought to be associated with poor placental function (Jauniaux and Nicolaides 1996: 141-4), but it is now known that almost all placentas have one or more lakes by the third trimester, and they don't seem to affect the baby in any way.
A recent study found that placental lakes were more common in thicker placentas. There appeared to be no association with placental abruption (bleeding from the placenta during pregnancy), high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia, premature labour, small babies or stillbirths (Thompson et al 2002).
Because it would seem placental lakes are so common and have no significance, most sonographers do not report them, or even mention them to women."
To see the image they have referenced go to the following site:

I can't find anything on this at all. And I'm a mom of 2, daughter of a nurse with 35 years of experience, and I've never heard of this. Did she say anything about "placenta previa", maybe? That is where the placenta implants too far down in the uterus, obstructing the birth canal. I don't know, you need to ask your doctor.
I hope everything's okay.

I'm a Registered Nurse and I'm confused by that term. You should call your Dr.'s office and speak with the Nurse tell her what you've told us and ask if the report is back on your ultrasound yet. Just tell her you're not sure if you misunderstood what they said or what, but that you are stressing about it and you know that's not good for you or your baby.
I hope that helps and if that is the term they used please e-mail me and let me know what the heck that means, ok.
Just relax and take care of yourself, good luck.

Lisa, I searched the internet, I cannot find anything that uses that term relating to babies. Please call your doctor and ask them. I'm 5 months pregnant and do not leave the doctors office if I don't completely understand something. I keep asking questions until I get it. This stuff is so important, you gotta understand what's going on. Call the dr.
