This is truly amazing. I read all these bleeding hearts here railing against you for bringing this subject up, but it was the Edwards that brought this into the public eye. I think it was LEAH above me that said it is none of our business and the Edwards' private affair. THEN WHY DID THEY DO A PRESS CONFERENCE MORON?!
John Edwards is a smarmy, slimy lawyer and it is whatever higher power you believe in's punishment for his misdoings that his wife has teminal cancer. What is offensive to cancer victims and survivors is that they are using her cancer for sympathy votes and the moronic people of this country are falling for it. That is offensive.
These are probably the same people that say dissent against the government is our patriotic duty but then call you a scumbag for pointing out how these horrible people are using cancer to get elected.
Good for you for not being PC and saying it like it is. This needs to be said.

Whether their campaign should go on is up to them. They chose to move on, so move on they shall. As for bringing it out, it was done so because Edwards understands the media would've eventually figured it out and then there'd be questions about him hiding his wife's cancer for the betterment of the campaign. Might as well come out and be straight with us for the get-go.
Funny thing about all this is that even assuming Edwards gets a political boost from all this (a dubious assumption IMO), how does this help the Democratic Party as a whole? All this would do is force their top two front- runners to exhaust more cash keeping Edwards in third place. People who are complaining that Edwards is doing this to hurt Republicans or help Democrats are just wrong. This is a personal, not a political, issue.

I don't think the campaign should go on, but hey... it's a way for John to get political sympathy.
I have all the respect in the world for Elizabeth Edwards having the courage to go forward in this situation... but for John I have none.

Why can't Bush tap our phones. It seems that the things we should keep private, are the things we come out publicly with anyways. Cancer is a private thing, and not something that should come out publicly. Unless you are looking for sympathy votes for your husband, don't hold a press conference about it.

Yes the campaign should go on. I applaud them for that. When a loved one is suffering from a terminal illness, it often helps for the surviving spouse to stay busy. I applaud them both. I wish her well.
I do not believe it was a free PR move.

well, seeing as we're talking about democrats here, i can only assume that edwards is using his wife's cancer as a campaign tool...the 'oh poor john edwards wife has cancer, lets vote for him!' nonsense. it will work with lots of dumb dem voters though...one can always count on dems to do the dumb thing...

It is a personal decision on whether their campaign should go on, and no one's business but their own as to their decision. And I would hope that they would not use it as PR.

personally, i think it was all PR... if you look back.. the media was not paying him any attention... even here in Charlotte NC he wasnt getting in the paper at all... he needed something to push him back in the lime light so he could get some much needed funding.... in the end this will come out as she has good news it has gone away... but that wont happen until he needs more PR much later in the year... like look now... who is in the news... it isnt him... he is already forgotten...
