During the month of Jan. , I placed an auction bid on a project using getafreelancer.com/. The owner of this auction contacted me by e-mail saying he'd like to do a trial period with me. He asked me to send him a proposal for link building for a client of his. The proposal was sent while using microsoft word.

However, I have yet to get this job. He has told me it takes time to receive answer. Mean while he asked me to send him another proposal for another website. This proposal was just for writting up an advisory report. My proposal was sent on March 10, 2007. Here it is March 27 and still no answer.

I finally emailed him saying, "I'd like answer by end of today. Time is $$$."

This company/person keeps making promises to get me work but has yet to deliver. Should I wait it out or dump this company/person?

Read any books by "Sandler" sales training. They teach you how to avoid this.

The time from proposal submission to acceptance can be substantial, in some cases, it can be a year or more. Thus, a few weeks, or a few months is not unrealistic. This is market specific.

Secondly, the hit ratio of proposal, to job acceptance varies by market. In some cases, its as low as 1%, thus 100 proposals for each project awarded.

That being said, as other posters have alluded to, make sure your proposal is not giving away the store. Its common practice for many outfits to social engineer free services via proposals. You need to generate interest, but by all means don't provide free services.

He could be using your ideas. Hedge your bets - don't send any more proposals - they could be using them to get their own work or an idea of costing. Forget them and move on. If they come back with work - then good. If they come back for more quotes say politely that you would like to see how the first two pan out first. Don't do any work for them without at least a 50% deposit.
