What is your definition of American made? Are you talking about 100% or at least 51% to still be called American made. You will be surprised that all the parts that go into a Chevrolet mini-van only 60% are American made and a Toyota mini-van is 80%. I my self try to buy mostly American made for the principle of things. It would be very difficult to buy 100% American made no matter how much money you have. Just reach on you belt or purse and look at your cell phone. American made goods are for the most part always more durable but not necessarley cheaper. If I buy something I might use only once or twice I will defiantly go the cheaper route and vice versa. If you want to try and buy more American made here is a web site that will help you. http://www.madeinusa.com/

Greed will be the undoing of America. Somehow in the 1950-1960's we had no problem making things in the US....ah but then Wall Street decided that companies need more profits to make shareholders lots of money. So even though they could make a profit in the States...it simply wasn't enough profit --- so certain companies decided let's make our shoes in places like Vietnam where the workers make $.25 an hour and we'll still sell the shoes for $80-120 dollars back in the US and make an obscene profit that benefits all of our shareholders. Who cares that American workers haven't got access to decent manufacturing jobs or the fact that the US government gets 0 ZERO tax dollars from Chinese, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Malaysian, Thai, European, Mexican, etc. workers.
So really why buy American....it might be the most patriotic thing we can do.
And really folks do we really want to continue to enrich the Chinese?? Nations go to war over resources and the Chinese are nearly 2 Billion people who will are already tapping into oil and mineral resources at an alarming rate.
So sure the prices at Wal-Mart are nice, but eventually Wal-Mart is the only place many Americans will be able to shop and meanwhile China will become more and more powerful.
So all you Wall Streeters enjoy your profits....it's ashame that they come at the expense of your nation.

If you want a quality product and are willing to pay for it, then you will buy american made. I was a manufacturers representative for an american private corporation that manufactures windows and doors for many years. The product was very well made, widely considered one of the best in the world. The product is also out of the price range for the average american.
I am now in the business of installing windows and doors, and rarely install very high quality. Have installed only one job with windows from that manufacturer in the last six months.
American products are worth the money, in my opinion. The manufacturing plants I have seen are tremendously creative and efficient. Keeping an educated work force is the key to staying competitive in the world market. Free societies produce much more efficiently than more socialist.
Buy American if you want quality.

Typical stupid american answers for the first few. Buy "American made" to keep the small american owned and operated companies open and in business. People always give the excuse it's cheaper for foreign goods, and then drop change in the parking lot and leave it. Just ask yourself does saving .20 on an item make up for 300 american workers getting laid off somewhere? Is the alternative to foreign goods so expensive that you can't afford the item? If so maybe you don't need it anyway. If you are an American and proud of it you should support your own countries goods whenever you can. If not you are supporting a Cambodian company that pays it's workers less than what you saved per day to make those items. Relying on foreign goods is not good for either economy.
Support your troops.
Support our goods!

Because, by keeping more American money in America it improves our economy. American companies can invest more money here if you buy from them allowing them to expand and provide more jobs to American citizens.
Look at what happened with Japan several years back. A lot of American money was going over there when they became such a huge electronics supplier to the US. What did they do with it. Bought up American Real Estate. How many jobs did that create? None. What will China do with the American dollars they are receiving on record numbers? Probably invest in their military and Government. How does that help the US? It doesn't.

Because we (as Americans) are turning into a nation built on credit.
We have no "real value" anymore because McDonalds and Wal-Mart and The Gap outsource all of their production to other countries...
and if that happens - then we have nothing to offer the world...
and if that happens - we will never have a chip to bargain with in the next war...
In a round about way - it is completely unAmerican to buy from Wal-Mart when you see it that way... it is pro China.
And if you think that WalMart is not a name brand - you are wrong... the companies that sell their products through Wal-Mart are forced into a price competition that is so aggressive that they cannot afford to produce their goods in the USA any longer...
Many American companies have had to sell out to China or some other country where workers are abused... all just to keep up with Walmart shoppers expectation of cheap goods, lower taxes and no social or environmental responsibility.

Where do you FIND anything American made.....other than Honda (most all made in OH, SC, or CA - including 75% or more of the parts used) or Toyota? Believe it or not, those companies are offering more job security to U.S. citizens than the so-called "u.s. auto manufacturers." You are NOT buying a foreign car or supporting the overseas economy when you purchase these vehicles. A significant amount of that money (MILLIONS of dollars, literally) goes right back into the local community. The big three might be "american owned" - but even THEY manufacture most of their vehicles in Mexico & Canada now - AND they are jointly owned by foreign companies now!

There no reason. As long as cheaper alternates are available.
Fix the tax code and bring companies to the state, lower the price and then people will buy american made.
