It's because of his off the field issues. The fact that they found him in a hotel room with two "self employed models" and sex toys with a plate of cocaine weighed against him. Unfortunately for NFL, NBA, and MLB players, they are judged for more than their on the field performance. They are also judged by how they carry themselves away from the sport. They are also judged by how they deal with the media, since they are the ones who elect these guys in most cases. Irvin was great on the field, but far from great off it.

All the haters on here crack me up. Irvin deserves to be in the HOF, and to the idiot that said Aikman was no good, go back to whatever forum you can give intelligent answers.
The reason they kept Irvin out is his off-field problems.

I'm surprised he made it in so fast. His career numbers aren't much better then many other receivers who played at the same time because he had injuries early and then ending his career. I think Tim Brown and Art Monk need to be in the Hall next year.

He was overrated, so was Troy. They had one of the best o-lines in the business, whick would have made nybody good when you have all day to throw the ball. Mike Irvin sux.

Wow, a bunch of obvious Cowboy haters on here. Irvin is deserving, his off field stuff probably held him back. Overrated? I don't think so. You guys must be Oakland fans and probably think Randy Moss is more deserving.
