Oh, I'm sorry, it's a man (well, human to be PC).
A baby crawls on all fours, an adult walks upright upon two feet, and an elderly person usually needs the aid of a cane, which constitutes a third leg.
Now it's your turn. "Sphinx" is a Greek term for the statue in Egypt. What does the word mean and what was the original Egyption name for the structure???

Man. The usual answer put forth is that this means A man, who crawls on all fours as a baby, two as a man, and with the support of a cane as an old man.
The mad auther of the Necronom, icon however puts forth a much fresher interpretation. This does not concern a man but mankind. Man, at his creation by the Elder Things, walked on all fours. Next he walked on two in this age. In the future, we will go about with three legs.
