Friends of mine recently bought a new condo. it was all new construction. They were under the impression that they were the first owners till they checked their mail and found mails for a previous owner in the mailbox. They were always told that the home was NEW, otherwise, they would have negotiated for a better pricing. Is there anything that they could still do or any place where they could register a complaint or something?

Hi JE, Early, Elite..., Bullz eye,

You have all provided different pieces of a jigsaw puzzle to complete the picture and there cannot be one best answer. May be if yahoo has some way to put this Q and A as a good section. Thanx all. Cheers :)

Most new homes are not new homes. Homes usually get bought before they are finished meaning they are still under construction and no one lives in it yet. but there still may be the odd ones that have not been lived in before.

Yes they could make a complaint to who ever sold the home to them, the company but that is about it.

Title to the property should have been recorded in the county clerk's office. That is the place to start looking.

I doubt seriously that the builder would have misled a potential buyer, and that the purchase price was all that negotiable.

there is a difference between new and brand new

brand new means just that it is just been finished and has no one moved in or been recently finished but
you are the first owner

then there is new
in ny new can mean up to 10yrs and you could have 100 owners
