i'm sure i've done it plenty of times. laughter can create tears and it's actually a really great feeling to laugh and cry at the same time. it's like an overdose of emotions.

If the emotions of each involved causing it are opposite, no. Such as a friend or relative dying, one would tend to cry.... How would it be possible to laugh and be happy about that at the same time?

On the other hand

Often one can laugh so hard or so much that it creates tears! Which would be "at the same time". But even in that, its not being caused, its a physical chain reaction. Laughing that much tires the muscles used in controling the tear ducts which cause uncontrolled leakage... its not actually "crying". Both are emotional effects.

If something negative happens which causes real tears, and one is laughing about it.... they need serious help! They have mental disorders!

Of course! Haven't you ever been extremely happy and you find yourself crying with relief at the same time? Or another example is, you get bad news, and things in your life are so horrible that you laugh at the absurdity of it, that you laugh and cry, because it seems so unfair?

Certainly. The ability to recognize this seeming contradiction and project it onto his audience was what made Charlie Chaplin such a great comedian.

I have. I was laughing because I was trying to keep myself from crying, then I started crying...then I laughed even harder, thought myself insane, and cried some more, for fear of my sanity....yeah, I know...I'm messed up.

Yes. Some people who do this at the same time are attempting to hide their true emotions by covering it with laughter. Since both are emotions, so be it.
