I guess another factor to think about is. Without the Slaves, where would our country be......
(pending on your answer) then why get slaves at all?

Not by themselves but they did contribute.

There were slaves who had inventions that helped this country and their were former slaves that started schools and promoted education for all.

However, you can not answer the questions why have slaves at all if they did not contribute to society because slaves are not held for the ability to make a society better. They are there for personal gain and as a means to an end. Some owners had slaves just so they could legally have people to torture and some had them for cheap labor. None had the idea that if they brought a group of people to their country as property that the property would then turn around and make their society better.

The end of slavery and then the civil rights movement made this country better. It taught most of us to respect the differences in others but to realize that all people truly are created equal.

If your education level is beyond grade school, you'd know that that isn't the case. Different regions of our nation has many different cultures and groups that helped shape America today. Our nation has become "Great" based on the accomplishments and achievements of many a people. Not just blacks or African "slaves". Slaves were part of our nations history, but not the sole foundation of the entire nation.

um, no. They may be important, but definitely not solely responsible. Remember, most slaves were agricultural workers, not the industrial giants, not the commercial behemoths. But without the slaves, the country couldn't have been a juggernaut that it was. They may have been the fuel and fire for the country, but they weren't the machine that built it.

It would be nice to think they did but its untrue.
The reason the South fell behind the North economically is because producers in the North didn't have slaves and so had to invest in machinery, which was much more effective.
I'm sure many slave descendants have contributed to your country's development

MANY people are responsible for how "great" our country is today, not just African slaves - or any other slaves, for that matter. Is this one of those "race card" questions?

you have to include.. the irish slaves.. the asian slaves... and all the people the helped build the nation.. rich and poor alike..BUT.. while they helped.. they are not the only things that did it.. that would be like saying... 1 group of people made the USA.. it was the idea of America... Freedom.. the ability to make your own way... to become rich.. to pray or not to pray... to own your own land... and have NO-One tell you it was not fair or you couldnt do it... that is what Made America.... NOTHING else...

lots of nations have had slaves.. they are not as great as America is... so your statement is off...

slavery is still a large part of everyday life in africa.. and they are below 3rd world

This country is what it is from the contributions of many peoples. African slaves, Chinese coolies, Native Americans, and the European colonists helped shape this country.
