You could always get a scholarship.

Many exchange organizations have them, and Youth for Understanding has a whole lot.

My sister and I participated in the most amazing program in the most beautiful and safe beach resort in Spain called Santander. The program was so well organized and planned out so smoothly that we loved it there. Castilian is spoken and also we were so busy all the time with so many fun activities, so enriching we learned lots! We would attend classes in the morning mostly conversational and in the afternoons we had activities such as a bullfight, dance classes, a dinner out at the fishermen´s quarter, boat excursion... and then once a week there was a full day excursion to beautiful places of great interest such as the Guggenheim Museum, a hike along a Roman Route, middle age village, fishermen´s quarter, etc... all while living with a wonderful and caring host family. The greatest thing about this program is that they offer the possibility, only if your choice at no extra cost of coming with a friend to stay with, at same host family home, although if you want to live on your own that is possible, too. Also, they can guarantee for you to stay in a host family who has kids similar in age as you. It´s a fantastic program and I cannot stress enough the wonderful staff, the great classes, and the nice people. We also had time to go to the beach each day! As it is a beach resort, just right there. It´s fantastic that not many people know about this still undiscovered spot in Spain! Have fun and good luck. And the program is www.beautifulspain.com

First, I want to congratulate you on wanting to become a foreign exchange student! I would recommend the experience to anyone because it is a definite eye-opener when you are surrounded by another culture. I studied abroad last summer in Poland at an university, and travelled to Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria. First, I would suggest sitting down with your parents/guardian and discussing the entire situation if you haven't already. Money is only one factor here since you are underage. Then find out how much they are willing to pay for; definitely keep a $money chart (it comes in handy to show how hard you've worked to others to help your case.) After that make out a letter and/or contact all of your family members, and explain what you want to do, why, how much it's going to cost and what you are doing to earn the money...then ask if there is any financial support they could provide (even deduct it as an early b-day/xmas/etc. gift). Then, I would start providing your work services to neighbors and relatives. Print up flyers with the "WHY" you want to work (I know I am more willing to put someone to work who needs $ for a good cause), and with a parent go around and present your case to the people in your neighborhoods or city. Even if they say they aren't interested or don't need any help, don't take no for an answer, say 'would you mind taking the flyer anyway and hang it up at your work/church or give it to a friend." Thank them and walk away. Think about invovling as many family members as you can, especially...to collect their unwanted household items (you help do clutter-clearing for free) and then enlist the help of an adult to set up a yard sale (it's getting that time of the year anyway). See if local stores and markets will let you set up change jars in their stores with your picture and purpose. I'd even have your mom talk with the news or radio people and see if they can't give you 2 minutes to plead your case and have your mom set up a savings account that people could give to. You may also want to set up an appointment with the school counselor, check out if there is anyway the school can help assist you (like if you are allowed to do any fundraising, collect pennies, or raffles at school or even collect more household items for your cause) at the very least he/she can tell you what to expect anyway from missing time at school. The key is your will and excitement to do this -both have to be strong. Remember, it may take a year or so of saving but it's well-worth it. What's worth having is worth waiting and working for.

There is a program called CORPORATE STUDENT VISA. In this program the students are allowed to work while studying, but if you are under eighteen, I am sorry I can not help you.

If your are brilliant enough, the colleges also offer scholarships.
