Without even reading the second part of your question i was going to say UCLA in California, and I see that your considering that school anyways. My brother just got accepted to that school and he is so excited to be attending it in the summer and he says its one of the best schools in the country. Another perk to this school is that its in California, and if you really want to get the full experience of America, then California is the place to go. Its so beautiful there and I'm sure that you would love it. I wish you the best of luck in which ever school you end up going to and in all that you do...:)

I think you will get a better look at the USA if you go to the northeast, maybe Boston or New York, or possibly Chicago. Wall St. is in New York, not Austin !

It's not that Austin or LA are bad places, but they are each far away from most of the other things you have heard about. If you go to NY then you can easily travel up and down the East coast to see lots of sights. Washington is only four hours drive or so or you could easily take the train. From Austin it is two days drive to get anywhere! And LA is interesting itslef, but you can't get to any other part of the country from there without an expensive plane ride. If you have only a year to spend in the USA you will get a better view of the USA from the Northeast.

Interesting that two answers are so different, eh? Well, there are 50 states in the USA and 300 million people, so you can't expect to get the same answer from everyone!

i will suggest UCLA. LA itself is a really nice city. also, the diversity in UCLA probably will make you feel way better. there are international students everywhere.
