While looking at the achievments , Ricky is leading.......but i would prefer Iman khan and Rana Tunga.......because ricky was given the best team after Steve Waugh's retirment......the world champion with the best players and best management .......so he hadn't had to work much for his team...but yes keeing the same standard of his team is definitely his credit.......he never let his team to step down.......and has taken it even up........but the case is bit different with Imran khan and Rana tunga........they were leading the teams, who were not trained well, they were street players who came forward because of their talent...though cricket is running in the veins of asian but it is not played with professional spirit........like we can see in Australia and this was even worse at Imran khan times.....and with that team he managed to get the world cup title.....his team was never favorutie but they managed and same goes with Rana tunga they used "Raw" talent while ricky is leading a "refined" talent so it does make difference....anyways...All the three are Bestest !!

Ricky has a great bunch of players in his team. He himself says that Australia is pretty much on auto-pilot.
Imran and Ranatunga must be given credit for converting their weak sides into champions.
I would go for Imran because he groomed champion players like Inzi, Wasim and Waqar. Imran was particularly responsible in making the two W's a world-conquering duo.
Imran also deserves credit as he was both a batsman and key bowler, apart from the pressure of being captain

The three players you named are matchless but we have to choose only one and I would go for Imran Khan because if you keenly review his career as a captain of Pakistan side he was simply great. He turned an ordinary team into world champions in 1992. He knew what was the weaknesses and plus points of every player and he knew how to use his bowlers as well as batsmen. When number three spot was tattering in the WC 1992 he decided to come at one down and every one knows how he played.Ricky Ponting simply has a bunch of great players in the team and its not difficult for him to captain such a tremendous side. Ranatunga was superb too because what ever pressure it may be he would never lose his cool and he won many matches for Sri Lanka himself but not more than great Imran Khan

Ranatunga, he won with a team having no real stars and in my opinion his understanding of the game was better than both Khan & Ponting.

i would say Steve Waugh .... he is the best captian according to my view
