Next month I will be doing work experience in a secondary school. My subject is Art, and I'm not sure what to expect. At 23 this is the first time I have done work experience and I'm not sure what I will be asked to do, or what I should ask them.

I want to find out about lesson planning, monitoring, assessments etc., so do I make an appointment or just ask as I go along?

And is 2-3 days enough to gain a good picture? (I plan to undertake a couple more placements before applying for a PGCE).

yes, 2-3 days can give you an idea, but the longer you stay, the better idea you get. plan more than you'll think you'll need. you can never be sure how long it will take for a group to do a project. each school is different as to policies, so ask everything you can think of while you get the chance. ask as questions occur to you and when there are no students around. the trick is to keep the students involved and busy. they usually like art, but some will of course do better than others. some might need more coaxing because they feel they don't do well at art. have fun!
