My car started hav ing difficulty accelerating, It has gas, and I have been told that I may need a tune up. It is a Vovlo, (1987) and has been doing well.

very vague description. I would change the fuel filter and air filter. If that doesn't fix it I would suggest taking it to a reputible shop and have a professional determine the problem. other wise you might spend twice as much guessing at the problem verses fixing the defect right away

You really might need a tune up.
However, with those infomation you provide, noone can give you a good answer over the internet. Rather, take it to the shop. Because there can be a million factors that can cause it...

People saying fuel filter are leading you correctly.
Once that's changed, it might be time for a new fuel pump. They can test the old one by checking fuel pressure. Quick and easy and the most likely problem.

fuel filter could be plugged or your catalytic converter may becoming plugged.
