the only herb that gets an H sound is the name of a person for me. Otherwise, herbs are pronounced "erbs"

Speech books and dictionaries will tell you that you have to pronounce it with the silent H. It's your choice. It's really not that important. What matters is that you are able to say what you mean and that who you are talking with will be able to get what you really mean. That is what communicating is all about.

I pronounce it with a silent H and my british born best friend pronounces it with the H. We drive each other absolutely nuts.
