You should be able to tell if there's a physical device connected by taking a look at the device manager. Right click on "My Computer", click on Properties, Hardware tab, Click on Device Manager and scroll through all the devices.

If it's hardware you should be able to tell just by looking inside your PC.

The main threat usually isn't hardware but rather software related - Spyware, Malware, Keyloggers, etc. Some experts consider this kind of malicious software worse than virus.

Most antivirus won't detected them just because they aren't virus, therefore this aren't the threats the antivirus are meant to deal with. You should use a good antispyware tool along your antivirus. One sugestion (among a few hundreds) is SpyBot - Search & Destroy, free and highly efective.

It may not be a "device", there is software that can do the same thing.......

Check in your ALL PROGRAMS to see if there's a program you're not familar with. Although SOME such programs "hide" themselves from the ALL PROGRAMS listings.

Also check in Control Panel's ADD\REMOVE Programs for same......

You can also hit the CTRL ALT DELETE Keys and check the programs running, then go to the link below to see what those programs are\do.....
