Just recently, a few months after the 5 year warranty, my laptop died and I am thinking of getting a new PC instead of a laptop. It was a Dell and was always relativley good.

The one I am on right now is very dependable. It really does depend on how well you maintain it. This computer is what most people would scoff at. I like using this one more than Awesome, (Sometimes). Awesome is my real computer.

As long as its got a fair sized processor, about a gig of ram, and a descent sized power supply and any bells and whistles you prefer.

Almost any desktop will last forever. I prefer Dell desktops, then HP and Gateway.

I would not purchase an extended warranty for a desktop computer. Get 1-2 GB RAM, Dual core processor, Vista Home Premium, make sure it has a PCI express X16 slot for a video card, and be sure you get all the software and driver installation disks.

Five years is pretty good for a laptop, especially if it gets lugged everywhere. Most laptops become dinosaurs by the time they are 5-7 years old.

For laptops Dell, Toshiba, HP etc. are good.

A five year warranty currently adds about half to the laptop purchase price. Cheap if you use it; a lot of money if you don't use it.

it depends on how you use it. There is no way to tell one brand is reliable than others. Many pc or appliance or things you buy may be defective in some way. In other words, you may have a bad brand, but last longer or on the contrary, you may have a good brand, but last shorter than expected.

It's all in your luck..!

Dell and Compaq are reliable manufacturers.
But electronic parts can be damaged or have errors on them at any time, that is why they are sold with warrenty.
You may easily calim your warrenty for replacement or repair.
