insist on telling you they are a writer in their answer? Often when it has little or no relevance to the question asked.

Being a writer does not make you specially qualified to talk about literature, furthermore anyone can say they are a writer. I know this because I am a writer as well as a ballerina and an astronaut.

Gratifying to see that the majority of people agree with me. If only they had told me what they do so I could know if their answers were worth listening to.

Yes, its kind of iritating, but its funny. I have emailed some of these people (some of them top contributors) with questions about there so-called books they have written and low and behold...no answers most of the time. I did get an answer from one guy though who seemed like a successful writer as far as sales of his book went, but when I have asked many others about their sales i usually get no answers (probably because they never sell their work). If you dont make your primary income from writing, you are not a writer...you are a waiter/waitress (or whatever your day job is) that sometimes writes.

You are so right. It simply means that a lot of them are bragging. I hate it. Yes. They usually put it in their source under the answer. "I know this because I'm an author!!!" Who really cares? I really believe that you can spend time here and answer questions even without being a writer. I am not mad at authors here. I'm just mad at the people who have to tell you that they are an author. I really don't like it when they just HAVE to list out their books. My point is that this section is all about having the knowledge and I'm pretty sure that a lot of us do. You don't have to be good at writing or have a book published to know these certian things.

You may be referring to me, and I only said I was a writer as an extension to a question, after some one had included in his answer - 'You'll never be a writer.'

If you are asking a question about books, or placing a question in this section, what do you expect? FFS, if someone is a writer and uses this site, they will
a- look in this section to see what questions there are, and
b- tell you they are a writer to quantify their reasoned explanation
c. the person who answered the question about censorship of childresn books made a perfectly valid point, it was relevant!

I think you are the one who's too far up themselves to appreciate that writers are people with opinions and thoughts, jealousy maybe?, that you cannot write anything other than banal questions ?

I didin't know that was so common, but that would be quite irritating but I think you should cut them a bit of slack, as anyone that thinks it necessary to bring that up frequently probably needs help with self esteem.

Never encountered such a thing, but even if I would, if I'd let myself be irritated by every single little thing I read on the internet, I'd probably explode.

Actually no it doesnt. I only mention that when I am giving a crit to someone who has asked for one or when someone asks for information on how to publish so that they realize I know what Im talking about. If someone asks for book recommendations, I never mention that - in fact I never even recommend things I write. So no - I dont find it irritating and I find it a non issue. Maybe you have a bit of hostility because you arent??? Just a thought. Pax - C.

I do. It's of little importance to me to have someone cite how many books they've written, awards they've won, etc. I would be content to see "experience" in the source area.
