You don't have to wait. It is a myth that you'll get cramps and drown. Heck, I used to eat while I was in the pool sometimes.
However, if your going to do some serious exercise. Eat light or eat later. Have fun.

Usually 1/2 an hour to 1 hour is a good amount of time. It allows your belly to digest your food so when you swim, you won't get cramps.
