Is a limited war practical and has it not caused the deaths of 54,000 in Korea and 58,249 in Vietnam .
We have weapons that can eliminate the enemy and its support structure the people in mass numbers forcing a complete surrender .
This is the goal of war . A complete and unchallenged submission of all combatants and people .

I have no doubt that wars today are about money and not victory .
They are political and monetary in nature .
They take from the working people of America not only our money but our children's lives when a real war should be over in a day or two since we have the ability to destroy our enemy .

One word: Democrats

They are more interested in causing pain and suffering on our own servicemen (examples: the current war funding bill that mandates a surrender in '08, demanding that terrorists get Geneva Conventions protections) and using that suffering along with the willing conspirators in the mainstream media to shape public opinion to win elections.

All wars are political in nature. It's just that during wartime, when a Democrat was in the White House, the Republicans put aside their political issues and worked with them to prosecute the war. The Democrats now are using politics to gain power and, as a side effect, get our military people killed and will probably guarantee a bloody civil war between the Shiites and the Sunnis. Nice guys, these Democrats.

The American media and "political correctness" tie the hands of our military in dealing with the enemy. We don't want to be seen as the big, mean Americans by the people who hate us, or won't support us, anyway. Conflicts are bloody messes that don't play well to TV audiences.
The world today is also a much more fractured place. The alliances formed during WWII (NATO) declared an attack on 1 was an attack on all. Hitler's Germany and Hirohito's Japan were the common enemy to vilify. Today, governments (EU especially) are so terrified of offending any segment of their population they will not take a defining stand. The globalization of today's societies also makes an all-out, no holds barred war a tough sell. We are all much more interdependent than ever before. No longer can (maybe will?) any country completely shut itself off from the rest due to manufacturing capabilities scattered across the globe.

WWII was also the last conflict in which the two sides were pretty well defined. In Europe, the German armies wore uniforms and the local populations viewed the Allied armies as true liberators. Civilians generally avoided combat areas. In Iraq/Afghanistan today, the local civilians may be combatants home for lunch. They mix in with the population making return-fire difficult without inflicting civilian casualties.

The short story, long version is times have changed for better or worse. Conflicts will always be with us and we have to manage them as best we can.

Unfortunately, you are dead on the money. War today is politics. WW2 was the last war that had the complete support of our politicians as well as our population. Since then, politicians that have no business sticking their collective noses into military business do so on a regular basis. This comes from both sides of the isle, and is ALWAYS used for personal political gain.

I think it is more political in nature. The PC culture and the belief that less people die in war instead of peace with evil men has pushed a PC policed war. More money is made in peace of democraticly controlled countries. But more people die under ruthless dictatores than die in the wars in the same countries.

One thing to remember is that since WW2 we have not fought any wars against direct threats to the US. Clearly in a self defence situation it is a lot easier to justify greater use of force.

Warfare isn't the same since WWII with technology, intervention in civil wars and so on. That happened over 60 years ago. We even fought WWI differently than WWII.

War against a country is far different than war for liberating a country. When France was liberated from Germany, the US did not indiscriminately kill french civilians with Nazi soldiers.

It is not really complicated. with the rise of liberalism which basically say you can't have civilian casualties so wars has to be fought with soldiers going door to door which your enemy will use againts you. I think if this nation should ever fall liberalism will be catalyst.

World war two was the punishment and destruction of human errors in the past on idol worshiping the dead Mummy with skeleton of skull and bones in making a mess back in the past in planet of apes.

We have to fight a politically correct war because the MSM whines too much about collateral damage. They have no spine.
