I think this has something to do with the weather condition too. The Canadian severe winters would not allow outside events like crickets to be played throughout the year.
One of my friends previously living in Kuwait would hold cricket matches though the temp is punishingly hot, but when he migrated to Canada, cricket is not an option for recreation.
Someone from Canada said that it is the matter of rich and poor that determines whether one would pick sporting events to excel in life and get out of poverty etc. I think this is not true and tantamount to aspersion on cricket (crazy) playing nations.

Cricket has nothing to do whether you are a rich country or poor country. If it is so, why USA, which is the richest country cannot develop a cricket team capable of beating any team in the world. It is purelydependent upon the interest in cricket in a particular country and the efforts taken by the authorities concerned to develop the game in their country.

This is not the question of poor and rich. This is all about the passion and asians are cricket crazy whereas Canada have so many other sports and they don't take it very seriously.

I guess that cricket is pretty low down on the favourite soprts list of Canadians.
Also, remember that playing and excelling at sport is sometimes the only way for people in less well off countries where poverty is rife to get out of the poverty trap. They have a huge incentive to do well.

our national sport is lacrosse and very few people know about it. if it does not include hockey, skiing, or any other form of outdoor recreation most won't find it interesting enough to watch or play.
