'Pacifist' is a pretty loose term, and covers a wide range of positions, from those who are generally opposed to armed conflict for political ends to those who (generally on religious grounds) absolutely refuse to take up arms against another human being.

Many 'pacifists' actually hold a 'Just War Theory' 9an idea dating back at least as far as Aquinas), which sets out a number of requirements that any conflict must meet before taking up arms can be morally justified. Needlessto say, most conflicts fail to meet some or all of the requirments of this theory.

I can't say because I'm not a pacifist. I believe that sometimes there is no other option than to go to war. I also believe that Iraq didn't fall into that category and that we've made a terrible mistake, the repercussions of which we will be dealing with for a long time.

True pacifists will not fight under any condition or for any reason.

Most pacifists believe in a just war theory, which was outlined in an answer above.

You mean until it's too late. That would pretty much sum it up, let everyone else risk their all so they can sit here and complain about it. No one likes war but we're in it and there is no easy fix. So get with the program or get out of the way but retreat before the job is done would be the wrong choice for many reasons.
