The Hilton by the falls is great although it can get kinda pricey.

I also reccmoned the Knights in at the top of Murray St, its resonable and is alright.

The Hilton is about a 7 minute walk to the falls and the Kinghts Inn about an 11 minute walk.

Yes you do need a passport.

Check out www.Hotwire.com. I got an awesome hotel on a Friday and Saturday night at the end of this month for less than $110 US dollar. It's right on the Falls and has access to the casino. I did a check and any other place wanted at least $80 for Friday night and another $120 for the saturday. If you're all about saving cash check them. You don't get the hotel name until you book but the surprise is worth it. Enjoy your trip. And no passport is needed if traveling by car.

Yes, bring a passport... Niagra Falls is a lot cooler from the Canadian side. Eaither stay somewhere in Canada, it's a bit expensive, or stay at the "Adams Mark" hotel in Buffalo. I stayed there and it was great!

You still don't need a passport if your driving across

As for hotels they are all really close together and you can shop around. You can walk-in a check what their rates are and if there is any rooms available and what the specials they may be offering at the time.
