I have a 95 Ford Explorer. The Overdrive light keeps blinking on and off. (The transmission was replaced about 7 years ago). When driving, the car shudders every few minutes. Replacing the transmission is very expensive. Is there a quick fix to this problem? How long can I drive the SUV like this? Is it safe?

The shudder you felt is most likely to be the up/down shift. I doubt it would be the transmisson. Rather, it should be a computer problem. You should be kinda glad to have a ford that can run 11 yrs...
I doubt it would break anything as it shift normally. However, if that happens when you are driving at 90mph and it was forced to downshifts, you will end up blowing up ur engine. Try not to get pass 65 MPH, at least thats what ur 2nd to the last gear can holds up to.

If the system is working properly, and the OD light is flashing, it merely means that the OD gear in the transmission is shifting in and out. Try driving in the normal "D" range and see if it still happens.

OD is programmed to shift into use at a specific speed. You might just want to try driving a little faster, or a little slower to avoid driving >at< the shift point.

If neither of these suggestions help, it's time to have the transmission serviced. Who knows? It may just be low on transmission fluid!

have you checked the transmission fluid level lately? there will be another dip-stick similar to the engine oil one. park your vehicle on a flat surface. bring the engine up to normal operating temperature, put it in neutral (with e-brake on or preferably have someone in it with their foot on the brake) then check it as you would the oil level. if it's low then add fluid with a funnel down the dip-stick tube until it reads full. *do not over fill*. check your owners manual for the proper fluid as there are a few different types (very important).
hope this solves the problem

i in my opinion had this take place to me in a 1997 Mercury Mystique (additionally Ford made) with purely approximately 45000 miles on it. i don't be attentive to what precisely led to it yet turning the motor vehicle off and then on lower back made the flashing circulate away quickly. regrettably, the flashing grow to be purely a symptom of a extra robust issue and the transmission finally mandatory to get replaced. i'm hoping some thing distinctive is going on with your truck :(

Have the tanny serviced (including adjustment).
The longer you wait, the worse the damage.
