I want something that is going to last me. I've had an Acer TravelMate 4650 for 15 months now and it is about to die. I don't want to get another laptop that is going to last only this long. It overheats and shuts off even though it had 2 GB of RAM. I will use my laptop for downloading music and movies/shows, watching movies/shows, pictures, surfing the internet while I use instant messenger and download things at the same time. What laptop is going to last and run well and fast while I do these things? What laptop(s) is the best for me?

Dear Beachbum,

There is no doubt! You must get one of the latest Apple notebooks!
These are very silent, there is a remote control, a very pleasant MediaCenter interface, easy to use and you won't ever fear malware !
I have one and I enjoy using it every day!

This is always a tough question to answer because it really depends on how much you want to spend. The more you are able to spend, the more "future proof" you make your new laptop. There are not that many laptops that are "bad buys" so to speak. I'd stay away from the Vista installed ones until at least the first service pack is released. If you're a touchy feelie kind of person, then the stores are your best bet. Best Buy, Office Max, Circuit City et al. If you are more into the online adventures, then you will get a better deal but you lose out on the personal touches that a store gives you along with the down time associated with a warrantee repair. I personally like the Toshiba and Dell laptop lines for the PC side. They do tend to get pricey, but it's worth it for the future. Don't skimp on the extended service plan. just be sure you buy extra insurance to cover the other things that these service plans don't cover (like water spilled over the keyboard).

Your ' Overheating and shutdown ' problem is possibly from 'Lack of Ventilation ' or possibly ' In Need Of Cleaning ".
might I suggest a ' Cooling Pad ', they are real cheap compared to the price of a new laptop computer.

I have found ACER to be a very reliable product.
I used a older model ( 10 hours a day ) in the Harsh Environment of Saudi Arabian Desert, without air conditioning for over 2 years and it has never been a repair shop.

What laptop is best for you, I will leave that decision to you.

hope this helped.
