My landlord has a thing about not fixing anything. Heres why I think its unsound- My apartment alone is on a 15 degree slant, and there is a ceiling beam (not attached to anything) poking out of one of my ceiling tiles. In the hallway, the ceiling has completely rotted out from water damage in one spot. My neighbors toilet is falling through her floor (the landlord ignores requests to fix this), and on top of everything else, one of the guys that works at the hardware store downstairs told me that someone drove into the back of the building, and if you look at the wall from the inside, its all cracked and bowed in- pretty much completely destroyed. The building is about 100 years old (Seriously, not jokingly). It was one of the first buildings in the area. Considering I don't want it to fall down while I'm in it, who can I call to have it inspected? Can I do it anonymously, or does my landlord have to know its me that made the call?(I'd rather her not know. She's kind of a scary lady)

I'm out of here in two months, so I don't want to have to deal with this if its going to take a long time.

If I bail now, the landlady gets to keep my security deposit- Thats 400$ I'd rather get back.

If I were you I'd go directly to the city with my complaint and the more information you've got the better. That means involving other tenants in this matter since it does concern them too! Keep all your records of all the things you and the other tanants have reported damaged or in need of repair that was never fixed or was fixed but malfunctioned again! The more you and your neighbors join together the stronger the case will be. You can't expect it to all go your way and it will take some time due to the justice system being slow but keep pushing for your desired results and DON'T GIVE UP. What ever happens don't be bullied or scared by legal mumbo jumbo because the landlord has laws to obey just like you do as the tenant. Also report the landlord to the county you live in and what happens is this property will be constantly visited in the future to make certain that you the tenant is not living in squalor! No matter what the landlord threatens you with you have the right to contest anything illegal and or suspect in your opinion. Be smart and don't let anyone get over on you no matter who it is!
Good luck!!

Sounds like you have a slum lord. You can look in your local phone book under home inspections and have some one come out and look at it. You can also contact the city and ask them what steps you should take they may send someone out to inspect it. In the meantime you should look for a new place to live....if you have a lease you should not have any problem breaking it due to the conditions. GOOD LUCK

Connect wih the Building Control Authority in your States. If you engaged someone on your own, you'll need to pay for the services and this person or company must be acredited meaning licensed.
