Sooooo...i have no idea what to wear. The wedding is in 3 weeks, i'm panicing like crazy. It's listed on the invite as a formal wedding, ceremony at 3 followed by dinner at a fancy venue.

Here is my dillema....
1. I will not wear a dress
2. I'm a bigger gal so it's a little harder for me to find clothes
3. skirt or pants??
4. what type of shoes??
5. jewellery??
6. what kind of top do i wear (i was thinking about a sleeveless shirt with a little black shrug??)

its only a small wedding (40 people) so i'm guessing that we are gonna be in some photos and i dont want to look awful

*bride told me that it is formal in the way that her hubby's brothers would wear jeans to their wedding if they didnt write formal..if you get the drift.....ben (my partner) has been told that for the men it is just expected for them to wear black pants, nice shirt and tie, not full suit...if you get my drift...so formal, as in prom formal, isnt expected for the women...i live in australia, so its autumn, weather will be around 25C, cool but not cold.

If it's formal and you don't want to wear a dress, I'd recommend the following:

* Wide leg, very nice pants.
* Strappy heeled sandals
* A nicely detailed fitted top. If you can't find that, a detailed silk or satin tank with a shrug.
* Jewelry should be understated, but balance nicely. If you're wearing your hair up, wear earrings and a necklace, otherwise just the necklace.
* Something like http://www.igigi.com/shop/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display¤tpage=11&Product_ID=205&fromcat=22&disptype=3
* Or http://www.igigi.com/shop/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display¤tpage=11&Product_ID=234&fromcat=22&disptype=3

It's early enough in the year that you can get away without wearing pastels if you're uncomfortable in them, but lighter colors are best for spring weddings. Also, since the wedding is an afternoon wedding with a formal dinner, I'd say at least be willing to entertain the idea of a dress. Maybe something like this? http://www.igigi.com/shop/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display¤tpage=5&Product_ID=397&fromcat=22&disptype=3

... If you're not a member of the wedding party, kylierenee, then certainly feel free to wear whatever you please (that's appropriate, of course). The sleeveless top and shrug sounds nice, but I don't know if black wouldn't be depressing (unless, of course, black and white is the brides color scheme) - maybe something in a heathered grey or lavender, with co-ordinating skirt or pants? If you think you're going to be dancing a lot, or on your feet for long periods, I'd stay away from a high heel, and go with a 'kitten heel' or a flat. As for jewelry, it's a little easier to decide: the 'fancier' the neckline, the simpler your jewelry should be (very fancy top, single gold chain or strand of pearls, plainer top, 'chandalier style' necklace sounds gorgeous. And as for where to shop for the outfit, try LaneBryant.com or you could google 'dressy plus size outfits', and maybe find what you're looking for - good luck, and best wishes! :) ...

Thoughts:

1) Is the reception only going to be dinner? You need to know if you are going to be expected to dance.
2) You do not need to wear a dress. Where something nice like what you might wear on a first date. Don't wear white.
3) You can wear a skirt or pants, be comfortable. You are not likely to be in the formal pictures since it doesn't sound like you are a bridesmaid. But you might be in casual photos taken at the reception.
4) Try to think of this as a company holiday party.
5) Wear comfotable shoes you can dance in. You are likely not obligated to dance, but if 39 drunk people are on the dance floor trying to do the electric slide, you're going to be more comfortable out there, albeit - maybe swaying in the back.
6) Don't wear super shiny jewelry. You should not out shine the bride. If you are married, you can of course wear your wedding and engagement rings. But, you don't want to look like you're getting ready to win an Oscar. Wear jewelry that goes with your outfit.
7) Pick a comfortable top with a high cut. It's ok to wear sleeves.
8) See links below, update your quesiton if needed, we are here to help you.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Smile!!!!!

I totally understand your dilemma
Here is my suggestion.
Black top-tank top-a bit low cut with a Black skirt ( long or just below the knee) depending what you like.
Over this, wear a one color shrug( for a wedding I suggest-light blue/turquoise or cherry red or white) - long sleeve or 3/4.
The black will make a nice line and a bit of color will make it not too "funeral". Then choose between earings or a necklace....something that will catch the attention elsewhere then on your figure if you are a bigger gal like you said.
The final touch --- Great hair and simple makeup and thats it!
You should look great.
As for the shoes...well I love high heels but for sure DONT WEAR FLATS. :)

It's a fashion that has been developing for approximately ten or fifteen years now. It's handiest in latest historical past that such primary snap shots are taken of a pair. Why no longer prefer best places? An precise "marriage ceremony" takes location in a central authority workplace with the registration of a pair. They can have a reception months later in a cafe. Where else will they take snap shots? Neither position is conducive to best pictures. It's a first-class time to have a good time the begin of a brand new lifestyles in combination. I've constantly loved seeing such couples and I most often ask them if I would possibly take their photograph as good. I desire them good of their marriage. "China Photographer" . . . does Tom Martin understand you're posing as him?

Try a skirt that is billowy. One that isn't going to hug the curves you hate but accent the ones you love. Go for mid calf length. This will make you look curvy. If you are comfortable in heels then go for it, if not then how about a wedge? These are a great compromise to heels and absolutely fun! They also tend to be more comfortable. Try something open toed with a skirt. Try maybe a black skirt with a fun colored shirt and also your black shrug you were talking about. If you are going to shrug it then stay away from clunky necklaces and go simple with your jewelry! :P

1st I hear you, I'm a bigger gal myself and find it hard to find anything to wear to a wedding.
Just went to a formal one last summer,
I wore an nice dressy pair of beige slacks a fancy top (I don't know were you live but Debs, and Fashion Bug are good for us ladies with a bit of meat on our bones) and a good pair of flats.
I did dress myself up with the accessories. A necklace and earring set and a bracelet. My bag was a small clutch that was all gittery (got everywhere, would not recommend glitter bag)

Get a pantsuit if you don't want to wear a dress- something dressy since it is a formal affair. I think regular pants may make you feel underdressed. If you choose a skirt and top, get something fancy. Same goes for jewelry and shoes.

Wear something that you like and feel comfortable in! If you feel better in pants cool. Wear a dressy shirt and dress it up with some cool jewelry. If you are worried about pictures, dress like you want to look in the pics!

What you describe you were thinking about wearing sounds good to me. Just don't wear white, and I think you'll be fine! :) If you're not sure, black dress pants and a basic dress blouse would be fine even. :) I am not a big skirt person so I rarely where one to any event. Don't worry about it! :) Good luck!
