I looks like you have a hard disk problem and the laptop is not finding the IDE disk. Could be the hard disk is not seated properly. Check to see it in properly and it has not worked itself loose a little. Otherwise it is not super easy to fix if you are not sure about what you are doing. Could be worth your while to get a local IT shop to install and new disk and recover the data from the old disk using an USB to IDE/SATA adapter cable. If you did want to try this yourself you could remove the hard disk. Buy a USB to IDE/SATA adapter cable online (they cost about $45 (http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/brando_usb_2_0_to_sata_ide_cable). You then try to read the data on the laptop disk on another computer and copy any data you need off this if possible. Then try to reformat the laptop disk and it may fix the drive for you. Then reinsert the reformatted disk and rebuild the laptop from scratch. the USB cable is good to have as you can help friends out who believe their hard disk are lost by recovering data for them for a small fee - so the cable pays for itself. Hope this helps Good luck.

“IDE 1 ERROR” on start up means the BIOS cannot see your drive. You can try to reseat the drive, just remove it and put it back. Also you can try to reflash-upgrade the BIOS. If it will not help, the drive is bad itself or (I hope not!) the controller on the system board is bad and the system board should be replaced. As a last resort, you can try to use an external portable USB drive.

Not 100% sure and I'm open to be corrected - but it sounds like your hard drive is dead. IDE 1 is usually the boot drive and if it can't find it - it is more than likely dead. My father in law had one of these (not sure if message was exactly same) and it did the same thing recently - needed to have the hard drive replaced

chances are you have a loose ribbon cable connecting either your cd drive or hard drive or incorrect settings in your pc bios. if you dont know how to fix it yourself, get some one that does should nt take that long to fix at worst you may need to replace the hard disk again not that expensive and quick enuf job... http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread1615.html
