Parents have stopped actually being parents. And laws are so strict now that it's ridiculous. You can't even spank a kid any more without getting hauled off to jail. (And I am someone who had an extremely violent childhood myself, so I don't want to hear any nonsense about child abuse - there is a very distinct difference between abuse and discipline.) People REFUSE to discipline their children any more. I agree with you on principle, but the fact is that kids are completely out of control these days and if things aren't against the law, there's no realistic way to punish them for doing something wrong.

Unfortunately, in order to save innocent lives, states have to step in to protect innocent people. Last week-end, as a firefighter, I responded to a vehicle accident on the freeway. 2 kids were killed, one is critically injured. A family of four was injured in the other car. Why? Because the teenager driving the car was only 17 and didn't have the maturity or experience to drive with other young people in the car (which is against the law in this state). There were no alcohol or drugs involved.
I agree with you. Parents SHOULD be doing their job but many give their children whatever they want at any cost. I can't imagine what the families of the dead kids are going through. But since the the kid who was driving was breaking the law, should the police have just let it slide? I don't think so. What if it was your sibling or child in the car? Although many of these laws seem silly or redundant, they are made to protect us.

The government needs to keep their nose out of my business as a parent. If I want to spank my child, I will. My children have never needed a "beating" like I got as a kid, but they know when they are due for a swat and toe the line accordingly. It is the same for driving. If I say my kid needs to be home by 10, they WILL be home by 10! If not, there is a consequence that I dish out, not the government.
Parenting is a skill that unfortunately is not enforced any more. The "nanny" state wants to take over all control because they think they can do a better job than I can. I beg to disagree.

I don't know. In the city where I grew up, the curfew for minors was 10pm, mind you that was many years ago. I think it helped parents enforce their own curfews. I do agree that the police should spend their time a bit more productively and leave the parenting to the parents. The problem with that is that some parents simply do not parent well. In that case, I can see why the police would want to enforce such a law.

I respectfully disagree.
One of the few powers of government is to enact laws that penalize people for actions that infringe on the rights or lives of others.
It is extremely well documented that teen drivers are a danger to more mature drivers on our highways and cause many deaths and much property damage.
I know that we all think that OUR children are "different", more responsible and trustworthy.
The facts however do not support this confidence in our own children.
The "trusted" and "responsible" kids are the majority of those that get into accidents and kill other teens or people.
Get them off the roads...driving is not a right...it is a privilege that should be given only to those capable of holding it with responsibility.

I think your right, i think its a parents duty to teach their kids responsibility not the law makers, or officers. I believe they have more important stuff to do like pass the Ag budget so i can get my job back, and as far as enforcement goes i would feel safer knowing they are spending their time catching killers instead of 15 year olds that wanted to make quick run to the convenience store at 12:30

I think this is a reaction to parents not doing a good job. Don't get me wrong- some do but you gotta admit everyone now a-days seems to be so selfish they party or whatever and allow children to run wild!

I agree with you. While there are lots of bad parents out there, having the government take over will not solve the problem.
Besides, if I say my kids can be out past midnight, who is the government to tell me any differently?
