Is it 7:00 am to 3:00 pm? if so, why? who established this schedule?
Also, is Saturday a regular construction day?
Finally, is the industry moving to more regular hours? 8-4, 9-5? would it be possible?
Thanks!

Construction has always been 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. with a 30-min. lunch and normally 2-15 min. coffee breaks.

This has been the norm for over 35 years due to union contracts.

Saturdays are considered overtime for union employees.

Don't really see any reason to change the hours.

I'd have to say from 7 to 3 is pretty standard--start early, knock off early if the contractor has his/her way. Saturday, that depends. My neighbors don't like to get up early, so they don't have any work starting until around 10 a.m., but then that runs the day into the evening or shortens it. I would think that the contractor and client should work the hours out to accommodate both of the needs. You'll notice that Home Depot and Lowes are open before 6 a.m., I think. If it's outside work to be done, contractors like to start work before it gets really hot. Most contractors put in an 8 1/2 to 10 hour day, to get the job done, so they can move on the the next job. Time is money. Opinion and experience. Communicate.

Dad worked construction all his life before retiring, there were no set hours (i.e.: 8 am to 5 pm), it was from sun up to sun set,
If the sun rose at 5am that was starting time, if the sun rose at 7 am that was starting time. quit as sun set wheather if was 4 pm or 7 pm.

My father worked construction for most of his adult life. He would leave for work aroung 4-6 am and come home whenever the job was done. Usually, he worked 12-16 hour days. During the height of the season (summer), he often worked Saturdays.

It could be different here because we have snow and such in the winter, so our construction workers cannot work year round. They have to make the most out of the time the seasons allow us and get all the years projects done before the ground freeze.
