Your statement is too broad. "No body cares" infers that not one person in all of society cares, which isn't true. Society often sets the trend for what people buy and as a culture we want to be like the Jones. Sadly not everyone has the financial means to accomplish this, so we either accept that we can attain this goal or we find other means to attain it. That is where we get the news headlines that some kid has killed someother kid for his sneakers! Value is often misplaced, so I tend to be rather anti-social if this is what society feels.
There is a small part of society that just don't have this material drive, so we surround ourselves with good people and we "*****" to each other how if we had that item it would either blow up or loose its value very quickly.
So next time someone says they can't live without a certain thing, then tell them to try! It is odd how so many survivors you will meet. If you see my limo please send it back!!!

Actually, I think that statement is not entirely accurate.
Life is not materialistic, people are.
In countries were there is plenty, of course there will be materialism. And there is a lot of it in this country.
Given the choice of having or not having, most will choose to have.
There is nothing wrong with having possessions, as long as one's life is balanced emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
As far as people caring for each other that is a different matter.
More people care than one would think. We usually only hear about, and focus on, the bad stuff.
But, look at all the people who take jobs to serve their community (law enforcement, doctors, teachers, firefighters, etc etc). Look at all the volunteers out there, those who give freely of their time to help the disabled, abused, poor, and others.
Next time you are out in public, SMILE at other people. Most of the time they will smile back. Be the first to be kind to others, usually they will appreciate it.
Life isn't perfect. But it is still quite wonderful for the most part.

I would tend to agree with you.
I think there is a certain way in which the society has evolved over a period of time & very significant changes have been noticed in the last couple of decades than the entire 19th century.
Over a period of time sense of possession has gained significant importance over any thing else in ones life, how many villas u own, how many cars u own, who are you dating, what brands u wear, where do you go to eat etc.etc.etc.
All these things have become reflective of ones success.
To succeed everyone is busy chasing something or the other and the finer aspects of life like love, romance, a sunrise, a blooming flower, flight of a butterfly, care for your elderly or care for your enviornment have taken a back seat.

Very true. The question is, how can you, personally, change that - right here and right now? What can you, personally, do to go against this trend? Because if it's going to change, then that change has to start with you.
What can you do to be less materialistic in your life? And how can you show more care for the world around you? Not just your friends and family, but everyone. Think of something you can do right here and right now, and then do it.
That's the only way it'll change. It'll change if you change.

In today's world it is a shame that most people think of themselves and the things they want rather then giving a second thought about others. People only care that they have more or better then what others have. It is a sad thing and makes a lot of sad people in the world today. If only people would realize the truth in the saying "The more you have the more you want!" more people would be happy with what they were given in life and not worry about whether what they have is better and more then what others have, or not.

yes, that's really sad...
like the movie 'crash' said -
Any real city, you walk, you know?
You brush past people.
People bump into you.
In L.A., nobody touches you.
We're always behind
this metal and glass.
I think we miss
that touch so much
that we crash into each other
just so we can feel something.
