My car is a 92 corolla but it only has 82k on it. The car shakes if i come to a complete stop on "D" if i shift to neutral or "P" the car would not shakes. What could be the reasons for it to shake? I don't really want to take it to the mechanic without any ideas; i got a feeling it would not be cheap if I let them "test" everything. Thank you

i own a repair shop and i think from what you have said about it that it may just need a real good tune up ,it sounds like it may have a miss-fire in it and this can be caused by bad spark plugs or anything, you can also have a bad motor mount or a transmission mount, but if its shaking real bad that indicates it may have a miss-fire in and it may just need some minor tune up work done on it,id try this before i took it to a garage, you may be able to repair this one your self, good luck hope this helps.

Check the hose coming from your air filter to the engine for any cracks and repair if needed. If a crack forms after the air flow sensor the sensor will not detect this air and the fuel will not be adjusted to the level of air coming into the engine. This problem can be common on many vehicles due to the rocking motion of an engine as it is put into drive/reverse. When the car is in park this rocking motion is not a problem. I have repaired these hoses using duct tape, but this is a temp. fix. You will need to replace hose.

It could be a wide variety of things.
Your rpm's may be low...which might indicate a fuel system problem, or just the need for a tune up.

Spark plugs and wires may be getting close to replacement.
All cyclinders might not be firing. Old plugs and wires may not be letting each cyclinder fire correctly, giving you a shake at the trafic light.

Replace the spark plugs and wires first. It's fairly easy, and your least expensive place to start.

If the engine tuning at idle engine running(rpm) is not proper .. the car shakes.
if the engine tuning is high at idle engine runs at higher speed than required thus and shakes ..
if engine tuning is low at idle the engine runs at lower speed and thus have to manage hard to be running and not stop , u will get jerks as well in this case
