my pc freezes and cpu usage is huge when i try loading disks on my dvd or cd?

512mb ram, xp2400+ cpu, ms8137c+. all i seem to have is a pc that runs internet fine with videos etc but always freezes when using dvd or cdrom. at 8x speed dvd cpu usage goes through the roof. never did it in my old system which wasnt as good...AT LEAST IT WORKED ggggrrrrr HELP!

almost sounds like you have a typical "Windows" issue...try downloading (www.download.com has it) a program called Registry Mechanic and run it. The full version costs I THINK around $30 but I've found it really good to clean up messes with Windows. You see, Microsoft, in all it's ramblings about how good it is, never gave enough to Windows to TELL you what is really wrong when something goes wrong, so...it just sits there until it can do something. Most cases of things going weird with a PC can be linked back to things that either are in the Registry wrong, or other issues with the Registery. Other thing to check is RIGHT click on My Computer, Choose Properties, the Hardware Tab, then Device Manager, look to make sure everything is loading right. Things it has problems with..it'll show up as having conflicts. Might even just be a driver issue. Reinstall drivers (it tells you how) or go to the manufacturer of your player & see if a patch/update is needed for it to run right. best I can do...
