I lost my voice once, I wasn't even sick, I was totally fine. I was out at Havasu for spring break with a bunch of friends, having a GREAT time, then after 2 days, I lost my voice.

In my case though, I had been yelling for about ... 2 days. ;o)

In the meantime, dont talk, dont even whisper. If this was your ankle, you wouldn't be able to walk on it. So leave your vocal chords alone. You may think whispering is ok, but its not. It still strains them. (thats my lecture)

Drink lots of liquid to moisten and heal. Drink some tea with honey, maybe eucalyptus, slippery elm bark is good for your throat too. If it goes on longer than you think is normal, a day? two?? go see a Dr.

Good luck!

Anyone can get laryngitis and no you don't have to have a cold. There is not much you can do except drink tea with honey and lemon to coat your throat.
