the soapy water works well.but look for ants they will farm aphids,they will move the eggs of the aphids around the plant,for the honeydew they produce .

Use Safer's insecticidal soap. Hand pick the devils off by snipping small twigs in which there is a clump. Round up some ladybugs because aphids are their favorite meal.

Another thing to try other than 7 dust is Coffee grounds. After brewing your coffee instead of throwing out the grounds, sprinkles them around your rose plant. Very good fertilizer as well :)

Another sort of fun thing you could do is order ladybugs from a catalog (most gardening catalogs carry them) and release them into your garden. They eat the aphids and bring good luck :)

I have used a product called Endall. It is an organic pesticide with oil in it so that is smothers all stages of insects. Good for scale insect especially.

Take a spray bottle and put soap and water into it and spray away. Very excited to know you have roses! Have snow where i am!
