if I build a flat bed trailer to haul 2 riding lawn mowers and a few other things (8x16 deck would be ideal) then what should I look at or onto for the axle? or should I think differently on the whole 8x16 thing. I have started trying to draw a scale model. but I am stuck as far as the axle dimensions. p.s. I am trying not to spend a million bucks here, there is a reason I am building it my self..... Thank you for any help you can give me...

Check out the rear axle on Chevy Citation or the Dodge K cars. They can be used with or without the springs and rotated for lower ground clearance and you can get electric brake conversions if you need them. Built one to haul my 1967 Mini Cooper to the track.

try looking for a used trailer! this would be easier, but then again im building my own boat so herees my 2 cents worth.
8 x 16 is a little big u may want to scale down to 7x16
before you start to build you are going to need an axle, go get one ! that way you have something there in front of you to measure. you must make sure everything is perfectly square or when you measure and place your axle it wont pull correctly it will go off to one side or the other.thus eating up your tires and swaying badly you dont want a trailer that big getting away from you . something that size with that much weight on it should also have a break system u better have a good look at the price of those ! double check the axel you buy as it may not have brakes set up ! good luck

Building is a very hard job if it was me I would look into used trailers. You have to have a level surface & keep everything square or it woun't pull right.
You will also have to use two axles to keep the wait off the toung or keep it from picking the back of your truck up when you hit a bump.
this is a big trailer. If you are going to go through with building I would use house trailer axles. These already have brakes but you will have to adjust them to work with your smaller load & put a control system on your truck.

Go to "www.synthx.com/btw/trailer6x.html" Several designs you can get some ideas from or just buy the plans and modify to your needs. If I was building a trailer, I would go to a auto junk yard and get a rear axle assembly out of a car or truck and use it for my axles. That way if it was too stiff, I could drop an overload spring to customise the ride. Good luck.

Take a ride to a trailer sales place and check out their designs. You want to keep it as low as possible for loading and unloading equipment. Otherwise you will need a longer and stronger ramp. Most 16 footers I have seen are dual axle. If you go single axle, plan on a holder for the spare tire.

I truthfully have 2 storys, both are on the same horse XD the first, i wasn't necisarily on the horse yet. i became going to experience bareback yet i wasn't waiting to get on my gelding from the floor. so i have been given a bucket and stood on it. I swung my leg over notwithstanding the bucket tipped and that i fell, dragging my spur each of ways down the area of the horse. i landed below him and scrambled out, affraid he became going to spook or some thing, yet he only grew to change into his head and considered at me like he became asserting 'you're this manner of dork.' haha!! the 2d time i became driving this horse on the honest. i'm a western rider yet i were taking hunt seat classes all summer season and desirous to attempt a hunt seat exhilaration type. My horse became a reining horse yet he did outstanding in hunt seat. The decide requested for a canter and that i cued him. He became somewhat clean and that i had some difficulty controling him. He shrink the nook at one end of the ring and that i did not see the puddle of airborne dirt and dirt in time to instruct him. he tripped and that i lost my stability, i over corrected and sat too deep interior the saddle (which my horse idea became a cue for a slidding supply up... which he did) i did a summersault over his head. I cracked my helmet on a rock and the honest medics idea i broke my collar bone. they made me experience in an ambulance to the ER yet i finished up in problem-free words having a foul bruise... fail
