i think it is great. And it is good excercise.
not too young or old--my cuz started when she was 19, she is 25 now and does it for parties for $$$. she still does it for fun too.
dont expect flat abs from it though, it actually builds up the muscle right below your belly button, but it is better than a flab roll.
Have fun with it. The costumes are cool.. My cuz performed a belly dance for my daughter's 10 yr old b-day. Neat gift!

Obviously your mother wants you to get some excercise and I think you should go out and get excercise in a way that you will enjoy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with learning how to bellydance. It will give you an amazing amount of excercise and make you extremely limber. It will probably be quite hard at first if you haven't been doing things like this before. Stick with it. You will end up with an incredible flat stomach and it will also work on your hips. Personally I think it's great excercise. It's sort of like doing a hula hoop of my day, not an easy thing to master, but worth every pain. And you are certainly not too young. Go out and give it a try. I wish I had tried things like that when I was younger, I would have excercised more. Dancing is better for you then a hell of a lot of other excercises.
Go have fun.

I was 14 when I started Dance classes. Started BD at 22.
Belly Dancing is wonderful.
It very good for getting to know you physical strengths. This is a real work out. You will start in just flat sneakers, barefeet and t-shirt and shorts. So its not jump into bare midriff.
I loved it. I was rotten at it! I was just down right horrible at it to be honest, my body style was not made for those cool ab rolls. Yet I still love it and dance around my house and LOVE the music. It taught me appreciation for the different Mediterraneans culture and food.
You need to wear a good bra and actually your dancing with lots of veils, its more fun than just the traditional "I dream of Jeanie" outfit you see.
Take classes with a professional instructor.
Totally different- I loved tap dancing and LOVE celtic dancing- not the Lord of the Dance" stuff.... Irish lowlands dancing.
We preform at Rennisance festivals and schools year round, its really really fun! I also dance Scottish swords....which is so much easier since I did it with Belly dancing as well.
family oriented -so your folks won't freak and you are safe

I recommend you TRY it. If you spot you can not do it, then give up. Ballet is plenty less difficult whilst you are a little bit child. I feel you are going to control it. If you are inclined to do it, you are going to. I do not skinny they will make you're taking categories with sons and daughters. In many dancing colleges a minimum of in my nation) the categories don't seem to be most effective approximately the extent of the scholars, but additionally approximately the age. E.g., there is ballet for newbies who're in fundamental university, older newbies and so on. Just make a few study.

I'd be careful which clubs you join for that, and ensure they look after children, if they even let them join at a young age. What does your Mum think? It's supposed to be a very sexy dance when done properly and tastefully, but no one should be viewing children like that. I'm no prude though. If you're going to learn it to be professional when you're 18 then it's probably not a problem. Just be careful, thats all ;-)
I'll probably get many thumbs down for this!!

I think it's fine! It's great exercise and you are going to have the best tummy! It's not like its something wrong. It would be like going to take latin dancing classes. There is something seductive about both of these forms of dance, that doesn't make them wrong, it is a healthy expression and I'm sure it's super fun! Go have some fun!
