A deep breath (which is really what a sigh is) is natures way of helping us to get Oxygen to our brains so we can think things through.

I dont know thats actually a very good question, and im pretty sure every one pretty much does it witout even thinking. its just a natural way of life, maybe to temporairly relieve some stress, or let out some air.
