Dan Marino. He holds every single QB record possible except a Super Bowl win.

It's hard to say without breaking down players by position. For an overall player, I'm surprised that Lawrence Taylor hasn't gotten a mention yet. There's been so many great linebackers through the years, yet LT was able to come into the NFL and completely change the way people looked at the position.

Legend means just that and to be a legend there has to be some mythical things abou them so The galloping Ghost Red Grange or Jim Brown. The Four Horsemen Backfield may be one also.

You didn't specify whether the individual was a player or not. There are some good answers already but to throw in a couple of names that are associated with football, I'd have to say George Halas, Vince Lombardi, Bear Bryant, and Pop Warner.

THe 85-86 Bears. Walter Payton, Willie Gault, and Jim McMahon specifically though!!!

GO BEARS!!!
The 4 horsemen also have a great chance of being a legend.

QB-Joe Montana, Joe Namoth, John Elway, Brett Farve, Steve Young, and I hate to say this but Tom Brady is not too far behind (3 Superbowl wins and still has a good 10 years left) Its tough to say..
RB-Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, and Barry Saunders
WR- Jerry Rice hands down

The other positions are hard to say except for the WR position so I would have to say Jerry Rice takes the reign. Hallelujah hollaback.

In the NFL I'd say Slingin' Sammy Baugh, but if we include college, the 4 horsemen of Notre Dame.

Or a coach, say Knute Rockne.

You can't really look at Super Bowl wins as individual performance, since that would take a TEAM to win.

As far as MVP's go, Brett Favre only person to not only win 3, but 3 in a row. Also he is the Iron man and has always performed against impossible odds. Example, 400 yards passing, 4td's game after his father passed away.

That to me is legend like.

Talking legends: it must be Joe Montana. Take a look at the stats: 4 Super Bowl Wins, 3 Super Bowl MVP and NO interceptions thrown at a Super Bowl. That is class.

Talking players NOT to forget: think about a demonstration in courage and bravery (NOT a spoiled super-star), Pat Tillman, Arizona Cardinals, who sadly lost his life for his country.

As a player, Johnny Unitas, the toughest QB to ever have played the game.

As a coach, Vince Lombardi, I mean, c'mon they named the championship trophy after the guy.
