I'm a fiction writer. I think it is a wonderful and vital art form. It can teach a person many things if the person is willing. Take for example, historical fiction. The writer puts a fictional character amidst a historical event or sequence of events. So the reader learns about that time period with a tangible, personal advantage they may not have gotten from a history text or reference book.
Even contemporary fiction can teach us things and entertain us! Sometimes fiction can put things in perspective, help us realise that our situation isn't so dire or unique! You know? There are many uses.

I would disagree with her. A majority of "Fiction" is actually based on real events. I feel that fictional books are a good way to get a child interested in reading. They can go from there and decide what they wish to read.
I also believe that your friend is not alone in her thinking.
I suppose it just depends on what one finds the most interesting. I prefer fiction because it frees my mind to envision wonderful thoughts. If I find a really good novel, I usually cannot put it down until it is finished.
Hooray for fictional writing.

Does she just not like fiction or does she not read much in general? Tell her that fiction often offers an escape from the hum drum and sometimes the horrors of daily life. There are also a lot of important life lessons to be garnered from great literature, and we can travel to places in stories that we could never visit otherwise. Many tales are based on actual historical events, too, so we learn about them in an interesting fashion.
Does she watch movies? Remind her that they're fiction too. Or maybe she likes "reality" TV. Doesn't she realize that stuff is staged?
I agree, she sounds like a fruitcake. Don't let her bother you.

i'm relatively stoic so i can not relatively make and describe thoughts realistically if i do no longer do slightly diagnosis. i'm additionally no longer a sturdy speaker so writing verbal substitute at as quickly as without it sounding awkward is likewise a project. different than that, plot holes, a number of that are obtrusive on the 1st reread. I plan to conquer the 1st via appearing slightly diagnosis, watch video clips of ways human beings react while feeling a definite emotion. Then i take advantage of that for describing in my tale. the 2nd, oftentimes after lots thinking (and rewriting), i might arise with some thing real looking sufficient. So i will ought to do some problematic artwork on that. the third I conquer via rereading my plot and many times lower back until i can not locate yet another plot hollow. Then I rewrite it. BQ: i do no longer relatively placed lots emotion in it, extra frequently purely description. Like this: "He confirmed a dash of sadness." or "Anger flashed in her eyes.". So it particularly is often purely person-friendly description of thoughts. i do no longer relatively describe them too properly intimately.

It's certainly not useless, it allows you to escape to a world where everything is possible and forms images in your head as if you're watching a film. Fictional writing is a very important part of my life.

I have a childhood friend that never read fiction b/c he said the brain only has so much capacity and he didn't want to waste the space. I think he has loosened up as an adult. A little.

I guess if do not read or write fiction at all, then you would view it as useless. I love to read and write, so I find fiction writing to be very useful.

Fictional writings are good for everyone, everywhere. We all need them to sometimes get away from our lives and reality. We all enjoy fictional writings, which cover everything from jokes, comics, TV stories, children's books, romance stories, and much, much more!
