Phonograph records and players?
I dont know much about the phonograph records/players. Anyone know which ones are more popular? Especially with music from the 40s-early 90s. Are the 78s or 45s more popular? Anyone know what ones theyre showing in one tree hill with peyton sawyer? she has 1000's of the vinyl records....what ones are they? and also maybe in "my girl" with anna schlumpsky. what one should I get?

Can you even find a phonograph with ALL four speeds (16, 33 1/3, 45, 78)?

78rpm records are from way longer ago that the period you mentioned. The most popular in the 50'-60's were 45's and 33 1/3rds. The 45's were a single song on each side and the 33 1/3rds were the albums like a CD today. Most record players played all three kinds of records. I had a Philco record player. My sister had Sinfonia. You can get retro record players today that also play cassettes and CD's and have radios. The needle was the important thing. Supposedly a "diamond" needle was the best.

33-1/3 LP's are the ones you see the most. Turntables are still made for them and lately some artists are releasing LP's of their new work. Try and spin a CD backward.......
