The glucose test is a sugary drink (DOES taste like Fanta, but it isn't) that pregnant women take to measure the blood sugar level to deterime treatment, if necessary for diabetes during pregnancy.

First, you will hear scary stories from EVERYONE throughout your pregnancy. Don't worry about them. It doesn't do you any good.
Second, the glucose drink is very sweet and not as bad as everyone makes it sound. The risks of not taking it are greater than the miniscule chance you will have severe side affects. This is important for your baby and for your health as well.
Chug-a-lug sweetheart! It's not so bad. Good luck to you and your baby!

I had this test, a little over 2yrs ago. I remember it tasted just like orange pop, but way sweeter. I was already nausious that day, but when I drank it, it actually made me feel better. They say to resolve "morning sickness" eat sour candies etc, so I think the glucose drink had the same effect as the candies. The only part I hated about the test was sitting for so long, I had to wait the 2hrs or so in the lab, where as my friends got to leave and go back. So bring a book just in case, and a snack to eat right after you are done, I got very hungry lol
Hope this helped

No need to be nervous. Most of the time they have more than one flavor for you to pick from. At least my doctor did. Usually fruit punch, orange, lemon & lime, or cola. I did fruit punch. I had two test. Fasting & non-fasting. With the non-fasting it's a breeze. You drink it, wait an hour, than they take your blood. You'll be just fine. Yes, I felt a little nauseated, but it wasn't too bad. I felt much better after it was all over and I got some lunch.

I just took my glucola test an hour ago and i didn't have to drink alot of glucose because the glucose used at this clinic was sweeter.
I didn't get nausea but my stomach did feel a bit wierd but after awhile it went away... it did taste like a soda to me too!!!

I was dreading this test being done but it turned out not to be as bad as i thought it would be!!!

My midwife gave me 48 sour jelly bellies instead of the drink. Because of the same reason, I had 5 minutes to eat them and that was crazy!!! I was chewing them like crazy. Lots of women get the drink and do not get sick. Just take someone special with you to be by your side. Im sure it will go fine. Make sure they draw your blood after the alloted time though, I had to eat the jelly bellies 3 times before they did the test right. Let's just say I won't be having sour jelly bellies for a LONG time!

the drink is just really bad tasting lol but all it really is sugar lots of it lol all it's going to do is put lots of sugar into you at once and they will test to see how your body handles it, the warnings like nausea well that's from drinking it fast and it taste so bad lol you may feel a Little faint at first but it's like a big sugar rush it will fade fast as your body works on getting rid of all they sugar,
good luck with your test, I had it several times and if it comes back OK then your good but if it shows your body had a harder time getting rid of all the sugar, you will have another test in the future and will have to drink even more of that yummy stuff alot more lol.
so good luck

I've heard that some people feel nauseous after drinking it because it's a high concentration of sugary sweet drink. But- I've never had a problem with it. I actually like the stuff. I down it like a jug of orange soda. I think it tastes good and has never made me ill.

When you are pregnant the last thing you want to do is drink sticky sweet flat pop! I did throw up when I had mine, but it was coz it was so gross and I threw anything up. Then I had to drink it again!! Not fun but you will be glad you did it. I had hypoglycemia and was passing out everywhere and after the test I was able to get proper treatment.

That is just a side effect warning like you see on any medicine product. That just means that someone sometime experienced those side effects and the FDA requires the company to state that on their label. To me the liquid tasted like flat orange pop. I drank it and was fine. If you are really concerned ask the phlebotomist (person drawing your blood) or you doctor about the side effects. I'm sure they can easily allay your fears.
