How can I get into senior housing?

A few years ago I tried to apply to get into a senior citizens apartment complex, but was told that I had to be 65 to apply. So I waited. then when I became age eligible and went to re-apply, I was informed that there was a 10 year waiting list! It's like a Catch -22. How does one get into senior housing under those circumstances??

My Mom managed to get bumped up the list by being about to be homeless. She was living with my sister who was moving and could not take Mom. Try other senior housing places.
