The crazy cat lady i am not!! But thats what they call me. They belong to my husband .If u meet him you'd never know it.The urine is so bad that when i have put the black light on it ,it looks like the house of horrors! Tempt is left at 70* smell isnt as bad unless you exercise.I got so sick i wanted to throw up !!
It makes for a huge fight if I complaine.I need advice.I am not a messy person. But my husband refuses to do something about the urine and says he doesnt have time to erradicate the problem. My carpets are filthy with cat urine. If I do any thing with the cats (4 inside 2 who visit from out side and male cat spray) he makes excuses and make's promises he doesnt keep. He has even thrown me out of the house over them. Divorce is not an option. So if i can find out that they are a health hazard I can justifie my case. We also have 12 or more strays out side, forget flowers or llandscaping. They are like an infestation! Help!! Thanks deanna

Not really for just cat urine. The only way there would be some type of case is if you had children or mentally disabled people living in those conditions (and being covered with cat urine)
As for sickness, the ammonia levels makes me nauseaous too- and my roommate just has one cat.

Something that may help (and should be done anyways) gather that male cat up and go get him fixed. That should cut down on his spraying a bit, and will prevent him from making any more cats.

you should also make sure the litter boxes are clean (with 4 cats, once or twice daily)
Another thing you can do is buy some of that cheap plastic sheeting (found at fleet farm, menards/lowes, etc) and lay that down on the carpeting when the cats are in the house- that will at least protect it, and most cats do not want to pee on plastic anyways. Even if you just put it on the main peeing area, it may cut it down.

What about a compromise? You get some gates or put in doors so the cats can have half the house (preferably carpet free) and the other half will stay nice?
Also, why isn't divorce an option? He sounds very controlling to me. If he places cats over his wife (including throwing you out of the house), it isn't right, and you sound very uphappy about this situation. At least go see a marriage counselor- if not together, go by yourself.

Cats create alot of ammonia when they urinate especially when they spray, so yes they can make you sick, and long term exposure to the ammonia will lead to some serious health problems. Get rid of the carpet if it is extremely bad and stop feeding the cats outside. if the male outside comes inside he will spray because of the smell especially if you have other males around, or if he is upset or wants outside. If divorce is out of the questions then renovate your entire house maybe once he spend all that money on cleaning up the problem then maybe he will reconsider untill then keep it well cleaned and disinfected and aired out.

Try cleaning the areas that are soaked with cat urine with a product designed to elimate the odor (oxyclean works pretty good but dont use amonia since it to cats and dogs smells like their urine )When you catch the little fuzz balls urinating on your carpet or other floorings pick them up and take them to the litter box also make sure that the litter box is clean much like us if a bathroom is no clean we wont use it cats are usually very very clean and picky about that .Hope this helps

try kids and pets. are they spayed and neutered? it isnt just the males, females do it too.

my advice would be to do your business on some newspaper, leave it in the house when your gone and he isnt. act like its normal b/c his cats do it.

i pitty you...i had the same problem at my parents house.

and any bodily fluid is obviously full of bacteria which can make you sick.

it also sounds like he loves the cats more than you. :(

ooh, i just thought of this. rub his clean clothes in the urine. he obviously likes the smell or something.
