Try moving the steering wheel and starting the car. Maybe the contacts are worn down on a 11 year old car.

Simple fix. You probably had the steering wheel turned when you shut off the engine and the wheel locked into this position. Put the ignition key back into the ignition cylinder, then turn the steering wheel hard in the same direction and turn the key at the same time. It should move enough for you to turn the key and start the engine and then unlock your steering wheel.

Carefully, put the key in the ignition, turn it to the first point forward, and wiggle the steering wheel. You probably locked it up in a position when you last turned it off.
