How were Indians affected by the Government in the 1850-1900 time period?

I am trying to brainstorm some ideas for an essay, but I would appreciate some help. I have already thought of the Transcontinental Railroad and the killing of buffalo.

In this period Britishers were ruling India. Most of the Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs didn't get their rights. There were riots among people. Their religious duties were disurbed by other religious people. Muslims wanted a separate homeland for themselves.Hindus wanted to rule the subcontinent. There were massacres, fights, controversies etc.
